"The reforms championed by the NSITF's Managing Director, Barr. Oluwaseun Faleye, had improved the Fund's compensation mechanism through digital innovation and faster claims processing." Dr. Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment.

The Federal Government has applauded the ongoing transformation at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), as The Gambia seeks to understudy Nigeria's Employees' Compensation Scheme to strengthen its own social insurance system.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, gave the commendation on Monday while receiving a delegation from the Industrial Injuries Compensation Fund of The Gambia's Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC), which is on a week-long study tour of the NSITF.

Represented by the Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kamil Shoretire, the Minister said the reforms championed by the NSITF's Managing Director, Barr. Oluwaseun Faleye, had improved the Fund's compensation mechanism through digital innovation and faster claims processing.

He said the collaboration between Nigeria and The Gambia would provide a platform for both countries to exchange ideas and adopt best practices that would strengthen workers' welfare and social protection.

According to him, while Nigeria has made significant progress in administering the Employees' Compensation Scheme, there is still room to learn from the experiences of other countries, including The Gambia.

Responding, Faleye described the study tour as another milestone in regional cooperation, noting that both countries share similar labour market realities and workplace safety challenges.

He said the visit followed interactions between both institutions during the International Social Security Association (ISSA) workshop hosted by the NSITF earlier this year, adding that the exchange would benefit both organisations.

"We believe this partnership is about mutual learning. While we are sharing our experience, we are also gaining valuable insights from The Gambia that can help improve our own operations," he said.

Leader of the Gambian delegation, Pierre Gomez, praised the progress recorded by the NSITF over the years, describing the agency's transformation as impressive.

He said the delegation chose Nigeria because of its experience in administering workers' compensation and expressed confidence that the lessons from the study tour would help improve social insurance administration in The Gambia.

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by both countries to deepen regional cooperation and promote stronger social security systems for workers across West Africa.
