The Federal Government has renewed its call on pastoralists across the country to adopt modern livestock production techniques as part of efforts to transform the sector, boost productivity and strengthen national food security.

Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, made the appeal during the graduation ceremony of pastoralists trained under the National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) and Greenfield Feedlots and Packaging Limited partnership in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Represented by the Ministry's Director of Monogastric and Ruminants Development, Winnie Lai-Solarin, the Minister said the training aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda to modernise livestock production, improve rural livelihoods and reduce dependence on traditional pastoral practices.

Maiha urged the beneficiaries to put the knowledge acquired into practice by embracing improved animal husbandry, better feeding systems, disease control measures and sustainable livestock management.

He described the programme as a demonstration of the government's commitment to equipping livestock farmers with practical skills capable of increasing productivity, creating jobs and improving incomes.

The minister also commended NAPRI and Greenfield Feedlots for partnering with the ministry to strengthen the capacity of pastoralists, expressing confidence that the collaboration would contribute significantly to the ongoing transformation of Nigeria's livestock sector.

Participants at the training expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and pledged to apply the modern techniques learned to improve their businesses and support national food security objectives.

This was contained in a issued and signed by Henrietta Okokon, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
