"The ceremony marks another important milestone in the administration and maintenance of federal road infrastructure in Kebbi State, with the incoming FRME pledging to build on the achievements of his predecessor and strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders."

A leadership transition has played out at the Kebbi State Field Office of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA as Engr Dr. Atiku Abubakar Sadiq assumes office as the Federal Roads Maintenance Engineer, FRME.

At a handover ceremony, Engr. Rilwanu Usman Zagga, the outgoing Federal Road Maintenance Engineer (FRME), formally handed over to Engr. Abubakar Atiku Sadiq (PhD), who assumed duty as the new FRME, Kebbi State.

The ceremony marks another important milestone in the administration and maintenance of federal road infrastructure in Kebbi State, with the incoming FRME pledging to build on the achievements of his predecessor and strengthen collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Speaking after the handover, Engr. Dr. Abubakar Atiku Sadiq expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to serve and described his appointment as both an honour and a responsibility.

“Today marks the beginning of my tenure as the engineer in charge of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Kebbi State. I am delighted and highly honoured to be here to serve my home state and my nation.”

He noted that while the duration of his tenure remains in the hands of Almighty Allah, he would use the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the development of Kebbi State and Nigeria.

Engr. Dr. Sadiq pledged that FERMA, under his leadership in Kebbi State, would strengthen partnerships with the Kebbi State Government, under the leadership of Executive Governor Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, other federal government agencies, private organisations, professional bodies and unions to improve road infrastructure and deliver lasting impact to road users.

The new FRME commended his predecessor for his longstanding commitment to FERMA and the people of Kebbi State.

According to him, Engr. Rilwanu Usman began working with FERMA even before many of his colleagues who later joined the Agency, having initially served through a private consultancy firm before completing his NYSC and securing permanent employment.

He said Engr. Usman had therefore accumulated more than 20 years of experience working with FERMA, all of which was spent serving in the Kebbi State Field Office.

Engr. Dr. Sadiq described his predecessor as a competent, hardworking and committed engineer who spent approximately 10 years as FRME in Kebbi State, providing leadership and maintaining strong relationships with members of staff and stakeholders.

He acknowledged that staff members might feel the departure of Engr. Usman from the state office, but stressed that his departure represents career advancement rather than separation.

“The good news is that he has not been moved far away from you. He is still with you at the zonal level. Another good news is that you have his brother as his successor. I will continue from where he stopped.”

He assured staff that the positive relationships and institutional legacy established by Engr. Usman would be sustained, while emphasizing teamwork as the foundation for further progress.

Engr. Dr. Sadiq also expressed appreciation to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FERMA for the confidence reposed in him.

He described the MD/CEO as a long-standing boss and mentor who provided valuable guidance when he decided to pursue his PhD in the United Kingdom.

In his remarks following the handover, Engr. Rilwanu Usman Zagga expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to serve and welcomed the appointment of Engr. Dr. Abubakar Atiku Sadiq as his successor.

He described the new FRME as an experienced and hardworking engineer who had previously served as FRME in Kaduna and Lagos States before returning to his home state to serve.

Engr. Usman expressed confidence that his successor possesses the experience, competence and commitment required to lead FERMA’s operations in Kebbi State effectively.

He thanked the management and staff of FERMA, as well as stakeholders in Kebbi State, for their support throughout his tenure and prayed for a successful transition and continued progress for the Agency.

The Staff members of FERMA, Kebbi State, expressed their appreciation to the outgoing FRME for his years of dedicated service and leadership.

They also welcomed Engr. Dr. Abubakar Atiku Sadiq and expressed optimism that his experience, knowledge and familiarity with the state would contribute to the continued growth and effectiveness of the Agency.

The handover was marked by expressions of appreciation, goodwill and prayers for the success of both the outgoing and incoming FRMEs as they take on their respective responsibilities.

The transition from Engr. Rilwanu Usman Zagga to Engr. Dr. Abubakar Atiku Sadiq represents a “competence-to-competence” handover, with FERMA Kebbi poised to build on existing achievements while pursuing stronger partnerships and improved road maintenance across the state.
