..... International summit in Delta pushes menstrual health as health, education, rights issue.

A Non-Governmental Organization, the Maden Healthcare Foundation has called for urgent collective action to eliminate barriers to menstrual health, as it concluded Menstrual Health Awareness Month with a landmark international virtual summit on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Themed “Menstrual Health Without Barriers: Voices, Solutions & Action,” the summit brought together policymakers, health professionals, development practitioners, educators, innovators, advocates, and students from Nigeria, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Held via Zoom and YouTube, the event served as a platform for meaningful dialogue on the challenges, opportunities, and actions required to achieve menstrual equity for all.

Organizers underscored the growing global recognition that menstrual health is not merely a hygiene issue but a critical component of health, education and human rights. Speakers addressed period poverty, lack of access to safe products, school absenteeism, workplace stigma, and the need to integrate menstrual health education into school curricula and primary healthcare.

As part of its commitment to advancing menstrual health education and advocacy, Maden Healthcare Foundation said the summit marks a shift from awareness to action. The Foundation urged governments, private sector, civil society and communities to invest in affordable products, WASH facilities, and stigma-free education so girls and women can manage menstruation with dignity.

The international turnout highlighted that menstrual equity is a global challenge requiring coordinated solutions. For Nigeria, participants agreed that tackling barriers will improve school retention for girls, boost economic participation for women, and strengthen public health outcomes.

With Menstrual Health Awareness Month ending, Maden Healthcare Foundation pledged to sustain advocacy and partnerships that translate summit conversations into policies, programs and products that work on the ground.
