..... Says "the safety and welfare of children should remain a national priority."
The Maden Healthcare Foundation has called for urgent and coordinated action to end the persistent abduction of schoolchildren in Nigeria, warning that continued attacks on schools threaten the future of millions of young Nigerians.
In a statement issued to commemorate the plight of abducted children, the Maden HealthCare Foundation expressed deep concern over the recurring incidents of school kidnappings across the country, describing them as a grave violation of children's rights to education, safety, and a secure future.
The organisation noted that thousands of children have been forced out of classrooms due to fear and insecurity, while many families continue to endure the trauma of waiting for loved ones who were taken from schools and communities.
According to the Foundation, every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe environment, pursue their dreams without fear, and return home to their families after school. It stressed that attacks on educational institutions undermine national development and rob children of their potential.
Maden Healthcare Foundation urged government at all levels, security agencies, community leaders, civil society groups, and development partners to strengthen efforts aimed at protecting schools and ensuring the safe return of abducted children.
The group also called for increased investment in school security infrastructure, psychosocial support for affected families, and sustained measures to prevent future attacks.
"As a nation, we must not become numb to the pain of abducted children and their families," the foundation said, emphasizing that the safety and welfare of children should remain a national priority.
Reaffirming its commitment to child protection and advocacy, the foundation urged Nigerians to continue speaking up for vulnerable children and to support efforts geared toward creating safe learning environments across the country.
